Mobi File Guide

Okay, so I sent you a free copy of my book. Maybe as a thank-you for joining my newsletter. Maybe in exchange for an honest review. Maybe just because I like you. Probably all three.

Now–what the heck do you need to do in order to read the thing?

Unfortunately, the process is a little complicated. On this page, I’ve tried to describe it as clearly as possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Basically, there are two methods. Personally, I prefer the email method because it puts the file in your cloud library, where you can access it from all of your devices. The USB method only puts the book on one device, but is the quicker method.

Ready? Let’s do this!

Method 1: Email to your Kindle or Kindle App

Step 1 – Download your Mobi file to your computer. When downloading, note the location where you save the Mobi file so you can find it later.

Step 2 – Log in to your account on the Amazon website at www.amazon.com.

Step 3 – Click on “Your Account” and select “Manage Your Content and Devices” from the drop-down menu.

Step 4 – Choose “Settings” and scroll down to “Personal Document Settings.” This section lists each of your Kindle devices, including phones and tablets running the Kindle App, and shows you the email address for sending documents to each device. (The emails end with @Kindle.com.) Make note of the email address for the device on which you want to read the book.

Step 5 – Now scroll further down to a section called “Approved Personal Document Email List.” This is where you indicate email addresses that Amazon will trust. Here, click “add a new approved email address” and then add the email address that you want to use to send the book to your Kindle email address.

Step 6 – Using the email account that you just added in Step 5, send an email to your Kindle’s email account that you took note of in Step 4, with the Mobi file as an attachment.

Step 7 – Sync your Kindle or Kindle App. The book should appear in your cloud library.

Method 2: Use a USB cable to your Kindle

Note: This method does not work for iPhones or iPads.

Step 1 – Download your Mobi file to your computer. When downloading, note the location where you save the Mobi file so you can find it later.

Step 2 – Using your USB cable, connect your Kindle device to the computer. The device should appear on the computer under the “Computer” section or “My Computer” section for Windows users. If you are a Mac user, then it should show on your desktop.

Step 3 – Open your Kindle drive and find the “Documents” folder.

Step 4 – Copy the Mobi file from your computer to your Kindle by clicking on it and dragging the file to the Documents folder on your Kindle.

Step 5 – Disconnect your Kindle device from the computer.

Step 6 – The Mobi file should appear on the Home screen of your Kindle device or in the device’s Documents section.
